What started as a simple curiosity turned into something far bigger than I ever imagined.
About three years ago, I began baking sourdough in my home kitchen — at first just for fun, for my family, and as a creative outlet. It quickly became a bit of an obsession (in the best way). I loved learning the process, experimenting with flavors, and sharing loaves with friends and neighbors. Before long, people started asking if they could “order” from me — and that’s when I realized this little hobby might be something more.
At the time, though, I was balancing a full-time corporate career, motherhood, and a growing love for homesteading and handmade things. I often told myself, “I don’t want to turn this into a business — then it becomes work, and not fun.” So I kept it small. I baked here and there, shared what I made, and kept telling myself it would stay just that.
But over the next couple of years, something shifted.
After ten years in a corporate role, I found myself feeling increasingly unhappy and unfulfilled. Leaving that life was never part of my original plan — but when it became something I thought about every day, I knew it was time to listen. I signed up for a single farmers market while still working full time, mostly just to test the waters. When I sold out in under two hours, something clicked. That was the moment I knew: this is what I’m supposed to be doing.
So with a lot of prayer, a lot of courage, and a lot of encouragement from my incredibly supportive family, I walked away from a draining career and stepped fully into baking.
Why Duck Creek Collective?
The name Duck Creek Collective is deeply personal to us. We live on Duck Creek Road, and this land — and this community — has been home to my husband and his family for generations. His dad also grew up here, so Duck Creek isn’t just a place on a map — it represents history, home, and the kind of slow, grounded life we value. The word “Collective” reflects the heart behind what we do: a gathering of handmade goods, local partnerships, family, community, and shared moments around the table. Duck Creek Collective is our way of honoring where we come from, what we’re building, and the people we get to build it with.
